“Black Women Leading the Way” Event: a great opportunity to enhance our vision of diversity

On February 22nd, Systematix eagerly participated in the ICTC Black Women Leading the Way in Canada’s Digital Economy Event in Toronto, joining over 60 like-minded individuals dedicated to advancing gender equity in the tech industry. The conference was a focal point for discussions surrounding Gender Equity in Canada’s Tech Ecosystem, featuring a riveting panel discussion specifically addressing Black Women Leadership.

A highlight of the event was the keynote address by Honourable Marci Ien, Canada’s Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth. Her words resonated deeply with the audience as she emphasized the importance of paving smoother paths for future generations, stating, “If I’m laying a path, that path needs to be smoother for who comes next.” Her empowering message set an inspiring tone for the entire event, fueling discussions and reflections on how to create a more inclusive tech landscape.

Throughout the day, attendees had the privilege of hearing from a diverse range of voices, including industry experts, thought leaders, and extraordinary Black women who have played pivotal roles in shaping Canada’s digital economy. Their insights and experiences were both enlightening and motivating, leaving a lasting impression on all who participated.

As the event concluded, we were left with a profound sense of introspection, asking ourselves, “What more can we be doing?” This question sparked a renewed commitment among attendees to take meaningful action in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within their own spheres of influence. Armed with inspiration and determination, the Systematix team departed the event with a shared vision of contributing to a tech industry that truly reflects and celebrates the richness of its diverse community.
