Data Architect

We’re seeking an experienced Data Architect to support our client, a major provincial energy utility, in the modernization, integration, and strategic governance of enterprise data systems. This role focuses on designing robust data architectures, ensuring information consistency and accessibility across platforms, and driving data initiatives that align with the organization’s long-term digital transformation strategy.

Location & Work Hours

Location: Remote aligned with CST Time Zone.
Start/End: November 17, 2025 – March 31, 2027 (17 months)
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST

Mandatory Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in data architecture, data modeling, and enterprise information management.
  • Expertise in designing and implementing data warehouse, data lake, and data integration architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, ETL tools, data pipelines, and relational and non-relational database technologies (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, Snowflake, MongoDB).
  • Proven experience defining and enforcing data governance, metadata management, and data quality standards.
  • Experience with cloud-based data solutions (Azure Data Services, AWS, or GCP).
  • Familiarity with business intelligence and analytics environments (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Experience working with APIs, data virtualization, and integration patterns across enterprise systems.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance for data privacy, protection, and retention (PIPEDA, GDPR).
  • Experience in Agile or hybrid SDLC environments using JIRA, Confluence, and Azure DevOps.

Desired Certifications

  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or equivalent.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer or AWS Certified Data Analytics.
  • TOGAF 9.2 Certification (asset).
  • ITIL 4 Foundation certification (asset).

Preferred Experience

  • Hands-on experience designing scalable data lakehouse and multi-cloud data architectures.
  • Proficiency in enterprise data modeling (conceptual, logical, physical) and model governance tools (ER/Studio, ERwin).
  • Experience implementing Master Data Management (MDM) and reference data solutions.
  • Knowledge of real-time data streaming and event-driven architectures (Kafka, Event Hubs).
  • Experience automating data lineage and cataloging using tools such as Purview or Collibra.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional data strategy sessions and mentor technical teams.
  • Background in utilities, energy, or other highly regulated industries.

Key Deliverables

  • Develop and maintain the enterprise data architecture roadmap aligning with business and IT strategies.
  • Design, document, and govern logical and physical data models across multiple business domains.
  • Establish standards for data governance, security, lineage, and metadata management.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to optimize data integration, storage, and analytics performance.
  • Provide technical oversight for data migration, cloud adoption, and modernization projects.
  • Document architecture patterns, workflows, and operational guidelines for data platforms.
  • Contribute to enterprise data governance frameworks and ensure alignment with corporate policies.
  • Support solution architects and business analysts in developing data-driven solutions.

About the Role

This 17-month onsite contract will play a pivotal role in transforming our client’s enterprise data landscape. The Data Architect will provide strategic guidance, design data frameworks, and establish data governance structures that support informed decision-making and digital innovation across the organization.
