Last Saturday, June 8, our team gathered for the Relay for Life, an event aimed at fighting cancer. This year, Systematix was particularly committed to taking action and supporting this cause.
What is the Relay for Life?
The Relay for Life brings together men and women who want to take action against cancer. During these events, participants of all ages unite as a community and take turns walking from 3:30 PM to midnight, symbolizing perseverance and sending a message of hope. Each team also aims to raise as many donations as possible for this important cause, which will be given to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A Day Full of Emotions
With great enthusiasm, our Systematix walking team, accompanied by many colleagues and their loved ones who came to support them, gathered at the Cité de Saint-Hubert park. To kick off the event, the 200 participants warmed up to dance rhythms to prepare for the many hours of walking ahead of them.
After this warm-up, the first lap moved our team and the other Relay participants emotionally. It was walked by all those affected by cancer, a group that included two members of our wonderful team. A symbolic moment full of hope that we will all remember.
At nightfall, the luminaria ceremony was another highlight of the day. For one lap, all the participants walked by the light of luminarias placed along the track, to music played by bagpipes. A moment during which everyone had hopeful thoughts for those around them affected by the disease, as well as a touching remembrance for all those who could not overcome this difficult challenge.
There was also a lot of joy during these poignant moments, thanks to the DJ’s entertainment, lots of music, and the simple pleasure of being together.
A very nice sum raised
- For this event, the Systematix team raised a total of $7,430.20. We ranked 3rd among the teams that collected the highest amounts!
- Overall, the Relay for Life in Longueuil – Saint-Hubert raised $138,800.
- Since the beginning of the year, several other Relay for Life events have taken place in Canada, raising a total of $4.2 million.
