Systematix

We’re currently seeking a skilled and experienced UNIX Midrange Support Specialist to support our client in maintaining and optimizing UNIX-based systems across enterprise-critical operations. This role includes performing day-to-day system administration, incident resolution, performance monitoring, and collaborating with both technical and business teams to ensure reliability, security, and scalability of midrange environments. The ideal candidate brings extensive knowledge of UNIX platforms, scripting, and enterprise-level support within regulated or utility sectors.

Location & Work Hours

• Location: Remote
• Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST.
• Start Date: November 3, 2025.
• End Date: December 31, 2027
• Availability: After-hours support and on-call rotation required.
• Security Clearance: Candidate must be legally entitled to work in Canada with no disqualifying criminal history.

Requirements

Mandatory Education & Experience

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent education/experience.
• Formal training in UNIX system administration.
• Proven experience with:
    • UNIX administration (AIX, Solaris, Linux)
    • Midrange hardware platforms
    • Scripting (Bash, Perl, or similar)
    • Documenting system configurations and operational procedures
• Strong communication and analytical problem-solving skills.
• Prior experience supporting enterprise-level operational environments.

Desired Certifications

• UNIX System Administration certification (Red Hat Certified Engineer, Solaris Certified System Administrator, etc.)
• ITIL Foundation certification.

Preferred Experience

• Supporting mission-critical applications within a utility or regulated sector.
• Enterprise performance monitoring and tuning.
• Collaborating across architecture, security, infrastructure, and application teams.
  Developing secure, compliant IT processes and documentation.
• Automating processes and workflow improvements via scripting tools.

Key Deliverables

• Updated system configuration and operational documentation.
• Incident resolution reports and tracking metrics.
• Improved uptime, performance, and reliability indicators.
• Knowledge transfer and documentation for sustained operations.

About the Role

This is a 34-month contract beginning November 3, 2025, with the possibility of extension. The role requires hands-on technical expertise and the ability to balance incident response with long-term improvements across UNIX midrange environments.
