Solution Architect – Application Development
We’re seeking an experienced Solution Architect – Application Development to support our client, a major provincial energy utility, in designing and implementing enterprise-scale solutions that enable the modernization, integration, and scalability of critical business systems. This role will lead architectural design, development strategy, and technical governance for major transformation initiatives across the organization.
LOCATION & WORK HOURS
- Location: Onsite, Regina, Saskatchewan
- Start Date: November 17, 2025
- End Date: March 31, 2027 (~22-month contract)
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST
- Availability: Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required to support deployment activities.
- Security Clearance: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and pass standard background and criminal record checks.
THE ROLE – Solution Architect (Application Development)
As the Solution Architect, you will be responsible for defining, documenting, and maintaining the architectural vision for application development initiatives. You’ll work closely with delivery teams, product owners, and enterprise architects to design scalable, maintainable, and secure systems that align with the client’s technology standards and digital strategy.
This role involves end-to-end solution design — from conceptual architecture and integration planning to technical governance and implementation oversight — ensuring solutions are aligned with enterprise objectives, regulatory requirements, and performance standards.
MANDATORY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in IT architecture, including at least 5 years in solution or application architecture.
- Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale applications and integration frameworks.
- Strong understanding of software design patterns, microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven architecture.
- Demonstrated experience in application modernization, DevOps pipelines, and continuous delivery practices.
- Expertise in Azure or AWS cloud platforms, including containerization (Kubernetes, Docker).
- Knowledge of data integration, security design, and governance frameworks.
- Experience in Agile or hybrid SDLC environments, using tools such as Azure DevOps, JIRA, and Confluence.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and documentation skills.
DESIRED CERTIFICATIONS
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
- TOGAF 9.2 Certification or equivalent enterprise architecture framework certification.
- ITIL 4 Foundation certification (asset).
- Agile or SAFe certification (asset).
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Experience leading large-scale system integration or modernization projects within utilities, energy, or public sector organizations.
- Proficiency in developing architecture blueprints, roadmaps, and governance standards.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD automation, API management, and service mesh frameworks.
- Familiarity with enterprise middleware, integration patterns, and application security.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional architecture reviews and mentor development teams.
- Experience with domain-driven design (DDD), event streaming (Kafka, Event Hubs), and cloud-native design principles.
KEY DELIVERABLES
- Develop, document, and maintain application and integration architecture frameworks.
- Define technical standards, design patterns, and reusable components for development teams.
- Provide architectural guidance and governance for ongoing development projects.
- Collaborate with business and IT leaders to align solutions with enterprise strategies.
- Produce detailed architecture diagrams, models, and technical documentation.
- Support DevOps adoption, automated testing, and deployment frameworks.
- Conduct architecture assessments and identify opportunities for modernization.
- Ensure compliance with the security, performance, and data governance standards.
