SECURITY ARCHITECT

We’re currently seeking an experienced and proactive SECURITY ARCHITECT to support our client, the Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement (SBP), within its Information Technology Division. This role will be embedded in the Cybersecurity and Risk Management Branch (CSRMB) and is central to strengthening the Government of Saskatchewan’s enterprise security architecture, ensuring critical systems and digital assets are protected across ministries.

As a Security Architect, you will be responsible for embedding security into solution designs, evaluating new technologies, and guiding modernization initiatives. You’ll collaborate with Solution Architects, business leaders, and technical teams to ensure government IT environments are secure, resilient, and aligned with best practices and compliance requirements.

LOCATION & WORK HOURS

  • Location: 100% Onsite – Regina, Saskatchewan
  • Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Start Date: December 18, 2025 (or as soon as possible following award)
  • Duration: 12 months with the option to extend up to 3 years total

THE ROLE – Security Architect

As a Security Architect, you will:

  • Lead and review solution and infrastructure designs to ensure compliance with GOS security standards.
  • Collaborate with architects and vendors to define cloud security requirements and secure integration of endpoint, network, and cloud solutions.
  • Conduct assessments to detect deficiencies, propose solutions, and guide remediation.
  • Evaluate industry best practices and emerging technologies, determining their impact and recommending adoption where appropriate.
  • Provide advisory services for risk mitigation and support compliance with regulatory and policy requirements.
  • Lead security aspects of modernization programs, including upgrading critical systems and retiring legacy environments.
  • Prepare security advisories, architectural guidance, and documentation to inform leadership.
  • Partner with governance, risk, compliance, and operations teams to ensure a cohesive enterprise security posture.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Strong background in security architecture within enterprise or government environments.
  • Experience embedding security into application, infrastructure, and integration designs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cloud security (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Ability to perform Threat Risk Assessments (TRAs) and recommend appropriate controls.
  • Familiarity with information security frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, CIS).
  • Experience in risk management, governance, and compliance.
  • Strong stakeholder communication and ability to balance access, security, and performance needs.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, SABSA, TOGAF, or cloud security credentials (e.g., Azure Security Engineer, AWS Security Specialty).
  • Knowledge of regulatory and legislative compliance within public sector environments.
  • Experience leading modernization efforts (legacy system retirement, cloud migrations).
  • Familiarity with government security policies and standards.

  • Documentation of risks, mitigations, and compliance considerations.
  • Participation in design reviews and evaluation of technologies and vendor solutions.
  • Recommendations for modernization, including cloud adoption, upgrades, and legacy retirement.
  • Support for risk, governance, compliance, and operational security teams.
