Director, Enterprise Application Management

We are Systematix and we are looking for aDirector, Enterprise Application Managementto fill a six-month+ contract positionwith one of our key clientele in Manitoba.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Director, Enterprise Application Management (EAM) is accountable for providing leadership and ensuring the Corporation’s Enterprise Applications systems are operating in an accessible, convenient, dependable and efficient manner so that users can access products/services and obtain the information they require in a timely fashion.The Director, EAM provides leadership for the division on matters relating to vehicle registration, driver licence, insurance and claims administration services for Manitoba motorists through the corresponding applications.

The Director, EAM is responsible for building the strategy and vision of the Enterprise Applications’ landscape with focus on leveraging cloud and next generational capabilities (SaaS, PaaS, AI, ML, Automation, Analytics, Big data). The Director EAM will need to have technical hands on experience in modern applications development and have a good understanding of emerging technologies and architectures.

The Director will need to build and manage a high-performance DevOps enabled team to build an environment of rapid learning, and is also responsible forthe ongoing support and maintenance of the corporate application portfolio, ensuring that defects, enhancements and incidents are resolved in a timely manner.

The Director, EAM is responsible for the SharePoint platform and, through the SharePoint and Application Services team, is responsible for developing effective web content architectures and publishing solutions to support the delivery of corporate business knowledge platforms leveraging the SharePoint platform for content and website delivery.

Contributingto the successful implementation of strategic corporate initiatives, the EAM Directoris responsible for providing assistance and leadership in relation to the sustainment and growth of enterprise computer systems and ensuring that applications meet legislative requirements.

ABOUT THE RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Leadership

    • Responsible for the Production Support team, ensuring the expedient prioritization and subsequent resolution of defects, the improvement of data integrity and the resolution of issues related to system deficiencies.

Provides leadership and support for the overall management of the corporation’s enterprise applications

Responsible for the Application Service team, ensuring that projects, Production Support, and ongoing maintenance work are supported based on the overall priority and importance, including assigning key staff to assist.

Contributes to the strategic direction for architecture and application development.

Uses organizational awareness to identify and engage key stakeholders within the organization when addressing systems defects and exploring solutions. Develops and maintains stakeholder relationships throughout the organization.

Provides leadership and guidance to the Quality Control Team, ensuring projects and Production Support are empowered to achieve acceptance for their system changes.

  • Ensures that Application Services is positioned to provide analysis and technical support, working closely with business transformation team in support of corporate initiatives and priorities.

 

Strategic Planning and Corporate Initiatives

    • Contributes to updating and prioritizing the division’s strategic road map.

Participates in the development of multi-year tactical solutions that allow the delivery of stated strategic direction while maintaining the corporate ability to address evolving issues.

Evaluates strategic opportunities, ideas, and proposals related to improvement opportunities and makes associated recommendations to the executive team

Provides useful case studies, data and best practices where applicable for strategic projects.

Acts as a subject matter expert (SME) on projects and initiatives to ensure that standards are complied with.

System Lifecycle Management

    • Provides leadership and support for the overall lifecycle management of enterprise applications and other peripheral systems and applications, including capability enhancement and ongoing maintenance activities.

Provides leadership and support for overall management of COTS application and peripheral systems, including enhancement of ongoing maintenance activities.

General Leadership

    • Responsible for all activities of a Director, including management of a significant operating budget, participation in strategic planning, long term human resource planning, budgeting for special projects, and improvement initiatives.

Responsible for hiring, performance management, and development planning of staff. Ensures technical expertise of the unit is maintained.

Provides guidance and assesses performance of project teams.

Responsible for the creation and operation of a positive, secure, and motivating work environment.

Supports the development of the division by participating in updating and prioritizing the division’s directional plan.

Provides leadership, coaching and direction to the EAM leadership team and staff.

Responsible for reviewing team processes and practices to ensure efficiency and ongoing improvement. Ensures activities comply with corporate directives, policies and procedures.

Prepares discussion papers, issue papers, briefing notes, correspondence, and boardsubmissions as required.

ABOUT THE REQUIREMENTS

Education:

    • Degree in business, computer science, engineering or related discipline
    • Post-secondary education in project management.

Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certification is an asset.

Supplementary coursework in agile product management an asset.

Additional training in leadership.

Experience:

    • Ten years of related technical experience, including five years of progressive management experience.

Experience in project management, product management, operations, and subcontract administration is an asset.

  • Experience collaborating with or managing complex cross-departmental teams in a Lean-Agile environment is an asset.
  • Experience in an insurance environment is as asset.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

    • Advanced knowledge of relevant insurance and highway traffic legislation, regulations, policies, procedures, and practices

Intermediate knowledge of enterprise application and technical architecture principles, and associated tools, technologies, methods.Ability to form ad hoc work groups/teams and to foster an environment to enable successful execution of departmental projects and initiatives.

Ability to use technology to its maximum potential, including the establishment of a collaborative environment to support group work.
Ability to work under pressure on an on-going basis.
Ability to build consensus among internal and external clients thereby fostering the necessary momentum to ensure departmental objectives are met.

Ability to engage in strategic planning and to communicate the corporate vision to staff.

Ability to handle conflict and criticism in a positive and professional manner.

Ability to solve problems, find creative solutions that meet the customer’s needs as well as those of the staff and the Corporation.

  • Ability to influence, lead and motivate others through mentoring and coaching activities and by engaging others in decision-making.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with sensitive issues in a confidential manner.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE

This a six-monthcontract position with the strong possibility of extending or turning into a contract-to-hire opportunity based on performance. Applicants must be based in Manitoba or demonstrate willingness to relocate. (The Corporation willfund the relocation and associated costs).Remote to start with occasional travel, then turning intohybrid role of remote and onsite work at client’s Winnipegoffices.
