ABOUT THE PROJECT Our client is a global leader in science and technology, developing advanced analytical instrumentation used by scientists and researchers around the world. As part of its ongoing product development initiatives, the organization is seeking an Electrical Engineering Technologist to join a multidisciplinary Hardware Product Development team supporting the development and qualification of new electrical hardware. The successful candidate will work closely with Electrical Designers and other engineering professionals in a highly hands-on rapid-prototyping environment. The role will focus on building and operating electrical test fixtures, cable harnesses, and supporting hardware while also assisting with electronic component procurement, prototype PCBA development, and laboratory operations.
ABOUT THE RESPONSIBILITIES
Build electrical test fixtures, load boxes, cable harnesses, and related equipment required for the qualification and testing of new electrical hardware.
Develop, assemble, and operate engineering-grade test fixtures under the direction of Electrical Designers.
Perform hands-on electronic assembly activities, including SMD and through-hole soldering.
Support the procurement, organization, and kitting of electronic components being supplied to rapid-prototype PCBA vendors.
Work closely with Electrical Designers and component procurement specialists to evaluate the suitability, availability, and equivalency of electronic components used in hardware development.
Assist with prototype PCBA development and troubleshooting activities.
Use laboratory test and measurement equipment including bench multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, and related electrical development tools.
Support electrical hardware testing, troubleshooting, verification, and qualification activities.
Maintain frequently used laboratory components, consumables, tools, and equipment inventory.
Support laboratory equipment registration, maintenance, and calibration activities.
Document test fixture configurations, build information, component details, and other technical information as required.
Collaborate with engineering team members to support rapid prototyping, testing, and continuous improvement activities.
ABOUT THE REQUIREMENTS
Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma or higher, or equivalent education and practical experience.
Hands-on experience working within a research, engineering development, or rapid-prototyping environment.
Strong practical electrical and electronics skills.
Demonstrated experience building and operating custom electronic test fixtures.
Hands-on experience building cable harnesses and performing electrical assembly work.
Demonstrated SMD and through-hole soldering experience.
Experience using standard electrical laboratory and development equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and function generators.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings, component specifications, and related engineering documentation.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with Electrical Designers, engineers, procurement specialists, and other technical team members.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Eligibility for or membership with a recognized organization of certified engineering technologists, such as OACETT.
Experience using electrical and/or mechanical CAD software.
Experience supporting prototype PCB or PCBA development.
Experience with electronic component selection, substitution, equivalency analysis, or procurement.
Experience supporting the development of scientific, laboratory, medical, or other sophisticated electronic instrumentation.
ABOUT THE ROLE This is a contract opportunity supporting the development and qualification of advanced scientific instrumentation as part of a multidisciplinary Hardware Product Development team. The expected pay range for this position is CAD $40–45 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.

As part of its ongoing product development initiatives, the organization is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a multidisciplinary Hardware Product Development team responsible for designing, integrating, prototyping, and verifying technologies for state-of-the-art analytical instruments. The successful candidate will work closely with mechanical, electrical and systems engineers, research scientists, and product development teams throughout the product development lifecycle, helping transform technical concepts into functional, manufacturable, and reliable solutions.
ABOUT THE RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and design mechanical components, assemblies, and test fixtures for mass spectrometry modules supporting current and future products.
Create detailed 3D CAD models and engineering designs using CATIA and SolidWorks.
Produce complete engineering work packages, including detailed GD&T drawings, tolerance analyses, Bills of Material, and supporting technical documentation.
Build and evaluate prototype assemblies to validate functionality, manufacturability, and ease of assembly.
Perform hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical designs and prototype assemblies and document findings and recommendations.
Collaborate with engineers, research scientists, product development teams, and project managers to translate theoretical concepts and product requirements into functional prototypes and production-ready designs.
Apply sound engineering principles to mechanical design challenges involving precision components and complex scientific instrumentation.
Support design verification activities and contribute to the investigation and resolution of mechanical performance issues.
Provide technical support for released products with a focus on improving manufacturing yield, field reliability, product quality, and cost.
Apply Design for Manufacturability and Assembly principles throughout the product development process.
Use rapid prototyping and 3D printing technologies to support design development, evaluation, and testing.
Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices and product designs.
ABOUT THE REQUIREMENTS
University degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
Minimum of 3 years of professional mechanical design experience.
Strong hands-on experience with CATIA and SolidWorks.
Demonstrated experience creating complex 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and mechanical assemblies.
Strong knowledge and practical application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Experience performing tolerance analysis and developing detailed engineering documentation and Bills of Material.
Experience designing mechanical components with consideration for product cost, reliability, manufacturability, and assembly.
Hands-on mechanical aptitude with experience building, testing, troubleshooting, and refining prototypes.
Experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping technologies.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering and scientific teams.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience designing precision mechanical components or assemblies for scientific, laboratory, medical, or other sophisticated instrumentation.
Experience with mass spectrometry, analytical instrumentation, or laboratory technologies.
Knowledge or demonstrated interest in physics, analytical science, or life science technologies.
Experience supporting products through multiple phases of the product development lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through verification and commercialization.
