Senior QA Test Lead
We are Systematix and we are currently looking for a Senior QA Test Lead for our client.
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Our client is seeking a Senior QA Test Lead to support the Land and Resources Cluster (LRC) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF). This role will lead and coordinate quality assurance activities across complex application delivery initiatives, with a strong focus on automated and manual testing, Azure DevOps test management, AODA/accessibility validation, UAT support, and defect resolution.
The assignment is onsite and requires close collaboration with product managers, product owners, technical teams, business analysts, stakeholders, LRC staff, and Business Unit staff. The successful resource will help ensure testing outcomes align with business requirements, acceptance criteria, agile/iterative delivery practices, and ministry QA standards.
ABOUT THE RESPONSIBILITIES:
In this role, you will lead testing strategy, planning, execution, reporting, and knowledge transfer activities across multiple test phases and environments. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure quality throughout the solution development lifecycle, from requirements and test planning through post-release validation.
- Collaborate with product managers, product owners, and technical teams to develop comprehensive test strategies and test plans.
- Apply strong automated and manual testing practices to support the development of test scripts, test cases, and test scenarios across IST, UAT, and PROD architectures.
- Assist with planning and creating test data for each test phase.
- Set up test plans, test suites, and test cases in Azure DevOps, and continuously integrate automated test scripts.
- Lead automation testing activities and support automated test execution across delivery streams.
- Execute integration, functional, regression, unit, load, performance, accessibility, and non-functional testing.
- Plan and organize testing for front-end user interfaces and back-end application components/environments.
- Communicate test results through reports and stand-ups, including clear summaries of test completion and defects for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Implement technical testing strategies and methodologies, including integration points, interfaces, fail-over, response times, data integrity, and security testing.
- Evaluate test results against acceptance criteria to confirm successful completion of assigned incremental work.
- Provide weekly reports confirming the status of assigned tasks.
- Define and measure acceptance criteria for test cases.
- Record defects and issues in defect reporting tools and Azure DevOps, including detailed descriptions, screenshots, and steps to reproduce.
- Participate in elicitation sessions, business requirement workshops, review sessions, and walkthrough meetings.
- Conduct post-release and post-implementation testing.
- Support clients with User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities and lead initial UAT sessions.
- Create traceability matrices and testing strategies to ensure outcomes align with business requirements.
- Coordinate review meetings with business analysts and stakeholders.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must-have:
- 3+ years of experience executing multiple types of testing, including automation, integration, unit, regression, functional, accessibility, and non-functional testing.
- 3+ years of experience managing test plans and test cases in Azure DevOps, including hands-on Azure DevOps Kanban Board management.
- 3+ years of experience developing test cases, test scripts, test data, and data requirements, including test scenarios for automation testing.
- Extensive experience with major test automation tools and automation testing practices.
- 3+ years of experience creating traceability matrices or equivalent approaches to ensure business requirements are covered by testing deliverables.
- 3+ years of experience developing technical testing strategies and test plans.
- 3+ years of experience testing non-functional requirements such as fail-over, response times, data integrity, and security.
- Experience developing test plans, test scripts, and test data, documenting software defects, and tracking resolutions.
- Experience with UAT activities and leading initial UAT sessions.
- Extensive QA experience at a senior level, including testing Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) and SaaS solutions.
- Working knowledge of SharePoint, .NET Web, Web Services, JavaScript, Python, RStudio, data visualization, geospatial data tools, and related scripting technologies for automation.
- Strong hands-on experience with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical issues to technical and non-technical team members.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with predictive and agile methodologies.
- Experience testing enterprise-level systems and exposure to ministry QA processes and standards within OPS.
- Previous experience working in government or public sector organizations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of public sector applications, databases, and systems while testing.
- Experience working in accordance with Ontario Public Service policies and procedures.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and experience working with clients and technical teams to resolve defects and manage change requests.
- Excellent meeting facilitation skills for requirements gathering and review sessions.
- Experience reporting progress to teams, project leads, and management, including proactive risk/issue escalation with mitigation strategies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, creativity, perseverance, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER:
- Conduct ongoing knowledge transfer throughout the assignment through regular meetings, touchpoints, and working sessions with LRC and Business Unit staff.
- Transfer all design, development artifacts, source code, and complete supporting documentation to the ministry's designated repositories.
- Schedule dedicated knowledge transfer sessions to ensure completeness and allow LRC staff to ask clarification or follow-up questions.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
Location: Onsite – Toronto, ON (40 St. Clair West, 5 days/week)
Duration: June 17, 2026 – June 14, 2027
Work hours: 37.5 hrs/week
PAY DISCLOSURE:
The average hourly pay range for this field is as follows:
- Junior: 0-5 years of experience – $64-$72/hr
- Intermediate: 6-9 years of experience – $72-$80/hr
- Senior: 10+ years of experience – $80-$83.51/hr
Compensation is commensurate with these standards; exceptions may apply based on experience, skills, test automation leadership, Azure DevOps expertise, accessibility testing experience, and market conditions.
